SIPTU welcomes UCD decision on recruitment
Date Released: 16 Sep 2006SIPTU’s Education Branch Organiser, Chris Rowland, has welcomed the decision of the Irish Universities, in particular UCD, to use international best practice in recruitment of academic staff.
“Our Branch had taken a complaint to the Labour Court some months ago on this very issue and the Court had upheld the SIPTU stance”.
“SIPTU had complained that UCD were by-passing agreed recruiting procedures, international best practice and their own Equality Report. SIPTU is adamant that there must be fair, open and transparent procedures used in recruitment of academic staff and indeed all staff”.
“We are pleased that our stand to ensure fairness has been vindicated. Our Branch will continue to be vigilant on this matter and all other matters effecting our members in education”.
