SIPTU rejects claims by Convenience Stores and Newsagents Association on RTE’s Morning Ireland about pay

SIPTU’s National Industrial Organiser Gerry McCormack has rejected as “completely inaccurate” claims about pay increases made today by Vincent Jennings of the Convenience Stores and Newsagents Association on RTE’s Morning Ireland. “Mr Jennings’ suggestion that the Retail and Grocery Trade is to face a 2.5 per cent wage increase from October is completely incorrect. The facts are that the SIPTU and Mandate trade unions have agreed to defer that increase due to workers for 12 months”, Mr. McCormack said.

SIPTU and Gresham reach agreement and avert dispute at weekend

SIPTU and the management of the Gresham Hotel in Dublin have reached agreement under the auspices of the Labour Relations Commission following over 12 hours of talks. Industrial action has been suspended pending acceptance of the terms by SIPTU members. Both parties recognise the difficult environment in which the hotel is operating and are pleased that a satisfactory way forward has been reached.

SIPTU cleaners to picket Custom House from Wednesday over refusal of contractors to honour job commitments

SIPTU cleaners mounted pickets on the Custom House in Dublin today after the company which secured the new cleaning contract for the building, headquarters of the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, refused to honour commitments to existing staff. "Initially the new contractors, Schorman Cleaning Services, had indicated it would be honouring the Transfer of Undertakings (TUPE) regulations, which would ensure continuity of employment for the workers", SIPTU Branch Organiser Karen Smollen, said.

Progress in dispute over employment abuses of Polish security guards

Representatives of the Polish trade union, Solidarnosc, met senior representatives of AIB management - supported by SIPTU - in Liberty Hall today. The meeting was arranged so that AIB would hear the concerns of Solidarnosc regarding the working conditions of security guards employed by Solid Security which provides security services to Bank Zachodni (BZWBK) in Poland - in which AIB has a majority shareholding.
