SIPTU rejects inappropriate accounting standard as detrimental to defined benefit pension schemes.

SIPTU has reiterated its opposition to the accounting standard, FRS17, which originated in the UK but has been adopted by accountants in Ireland since 2002. Union General Secretary, Joe O'Flynn, said that the standard is "inappropriate, ill-conceived and regressive for pension schemes" and is undermining the work done by unions over decades to provide adequate pension cover for workers.
