Resolution in sight for Dun Laoghaire / Rathdown County Council Dispute
Date Released: 01 May 2002SIPTU County Council's Branch Secretary, John Glennon said proposals had been formulated which could pave the way for a resolution of the industrial dispute in Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown County Council. "Following fifteen hours of direct negotiations with County Council Officials yesterday, we are now putting the final touches to a set of dispute resolution proposals. These proposals were framed in conjunction with the strike committee - which is representative of all sections. The committee will be recommending acceptance of the proposals; the lifting of all pickets and a return to work tomorrow morning - subject to a general meeting of all our members who will have the final say on these proposals. "Under the proposals, all outstanding issues will either be addressed immediately or within an agreed time-frame. The proposals will also provide for a new industrial relations procedure to bring about far better relationships with the Human Resources personnel and the Director of Services responsible for each section. In effect we will cut out several layers of middle management. "We will be making contact with Kieran Mulvey of the Labour Relations Commission thanking him for his intervention but advising that we will not now require the services of the LRC. "The people in Dunlaoghaire and Rathdown will no longer be inconvenienced because of the way in which the County Council have done their business," concluded Mr. Glennon.
