The Risen People

Date Released: 06 Oct 2003

As part of the commemoration of the 90th Anniversary of the 1913 Lockout, SIPTU is hosting a production of 'The Risen People',performed by East Wall P.E.G. and written by James Plunkett. This play engages us in a very real appreciation of the conditions suffered by the majority of people living in Dublin in 1913 and puts into context the history of this period leading up to the 1916 Rising.

In conjunction with this production SIPTU are runing 30 minute workshops prior to the performances, which provide an opportunity for people to explore the time - the place- the people - the lifestyles - the politics - and how a figure like Jim Larkin and the trade union movement he represented have influenced social structures right up to the present day.

These themes will be explored through spoken word, song and video images and will be facilitated by professionals from the SIPTU Education Centre and The Dublin Council Of Trades Union.

There is no charge for the workshops.
