Leading aircraft engine manufacturer heading for turbulence

Date Released: 16 Nov 2005

SIPTU has served notice of industrial action on Pratt and Whitney International Ltd., (PWA) following management's arbitrary breaches of policies, procedures and agreements - including unfairly dismissing one of our members, announced SIPTU's Civil Aviation Branch Organiser, Pat Ward.

"The Union made every effort to resolve this issue at local level, but management blatantly refused to engage with us in any meaningful way. We were left with no alternative therefore but to serve notice of industrial action," said Mr. Ward.

"Strike notice is due to expire on December 1, 2005 and the form of industrial action to be taken will be directed by the disputes committee.

PWA are the world's leading aircraft engine makers, supplying engines to all major international airlines and employ over 100 people at its Dublin plant in Rathcoole, Co. Dublin.
