Protest march in support of Doyle Concrete - Steelite workers
Date Released: 15 Nov 2005"Trade unionists and all right thinking people should come out in their hundreds to join the protest rally planned for Sunday, November 20 in support of the striking workers at Doyle Concrete/Steelite," declared SIPTU's Kildare/Leixlip Branch Organiser, Adrian Kane. "The management at Doyle Concrete is acting just like the management at Irish Ferries by displacing existing employees with workers on lower rates of pay," he said. "They have snubbed the State's industrial relations machinery by refusing to implement the terms of a Labour Court Recommendation - which was binding on the Union. "But, as a result of the Labour Court vindicating the position taken by the Union, the resolve of the men on strike is now stronger than ever." The SIPTU Kildare/Leixlip Branch is also running a benefit night on Friday November 18, in the Mill House, Rathangan to help raise money for the striking workers who have been on the picket lines since the beginning of October. Tickets are available from SIPTU shop stewards or directly from the Union offices at George's Street, Newbridge or phoning 045-432318.
