Industrial action at Arnotts postponed

Date Released: 23 Nov 2006

Industrial action by workers at Arnotts Department Store in Dublin – due to begin today, Thursday, November 23, 2006 – has been postponed.

“The postponement will allow the workers to vote on a new set of proposals which emerged from the Labour Relations Commission,” explained SIPTU Branch Organiser, John Flannery

“The dispute is over a management decision to move to a new location and the introduction of shift work without agreement.

“Following an invitation from the Labour Relations Commission to attend further talks, a set of proposals were drawn up which are being recommended for acceptance by the SIPTU negotiating committee.”

The proposals cover an exit package, changes in hours, disturbance compensation, overtime buyout, Christmas bonus and agreement on new staffing arrangements.  Voting on the new proposals will take place next Wednesday, November 29, 2006.
