Breast screening services abysmal - SIPTU's National Women's Committee

Date Released: 07 Dec 2007

The fact that women in Ireland in 2007 have to hire a bus to take women to Belfast for breast screening - because there is no breastcheck service in the North West - is utterly abysmal, declared SIPTU’s National Women’s Committee.

At their meeting in Cork today, December 7, the Committee congratulated Pat Kenny for highlighting the existence of the ‘Breast Bus’ in Donegal on his radio show.

The Committee offered its solidarity to all the women in Ireland who are suffering distress because of the current breast care debacle and urged the Health Service Executive to immediately take the issue of health screening seriously - for both men and women.
