Frontline Alliance calls on members to join other PAYE workers at ICTU protests tomorrow

Date Released: 05 Nov 2009

The 24/7 Frontline Alliance is calling on all members who are available to support the Irish Congress of Trade Unions Day of Action tomorrow in Dublin and the seven regional centres throughout the state. As always, Frontline personnel will ensure there is adequate emergency cover.

“The Alliance fully supports the ICTU demand that job protection and job creation are absolute priorities and that a National Recovery Bond should be used to fund new hospitals, schools and other projects that will yield long term benefits to the community in social and economic terms such efficient public transport and broadband infrastructure”, the Alliance Chairperson Des Kavanagh of the Psychiatric Nurses Association said today.

“We are fully aware of the need to maintain competitiveness and we accept that everyone must take some of the pain”, Alliance Secretary Liam Doran of the Irish Nurses Organisation said. “However there is little evidence of a co-ordinated strategy by the Government to date. Its main focus to date has been on bailing out the banks and so far the only role given to PAYE workers in the public or private sector is to foot the bill. We share a common objective in defending vital frontline services and make those wealthy elements in our society outside the PAYE sector pay their share.”
