SIPTU Public Service members vote for industrial and strike action by large majority
Date Released: 17 Nov 2009Earlier this year, SIPTU obtained extensive mandates to promote industrial action and strike action in pursuit of the terms of the Transitional Agreement (September 2008) or an Agreed Alternative.
The proposition sought renewed approval for the promotion of industrial action and strike action in pursuit of compliance with the Transitional Agreement or an Agreed Alternative in each case.
We have now conducted ballots across the country seeking renewal of these mandates granted earlier in the year.
Ballots were conducted across the Public Service and in a number of Private Sector and Commercial Semi-State employments. Counts were conducted and results recorded at the appropriate Branch or Employment/Sectoral level.
However, as a Day of Action has been scheduled for Tuesday next, November 24, in the Public Service the following are the results for that Sector based on applications for sanction to proceed with action, aggregated by service category.
