JOINT PRESS STATEMENT BY SIPTU AND UNITE TRADE UNIONS AT CADBURY IRELAND

Date Released: 05 Feb 2010

“We wish to express our disappointment at statements made by members of the opposition, and the responses given in the Dáil by the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise Trade and Employment, Mary Coughlan, with regard to the future of Irish jobs as a result of the recent Kraft takeover of Cadbury’s.

Some of these comments, which have raised questions about the viability of the Cadbury’s operations in Ireland, have caused fear, anger and frustration among the workforce.

The Unions remain positive about the future of Cadbury’s within the Kraft Group. We have always strived to keep jobs and investment in Coolock and in the other Cadbury’s plants in Ireland and will continue to do so.

We find that any outside involvement from people who are not in possession of the full facts is unhelpful and damaging. We would ask them to stop using our jobs as a political football and, at the very least, wait until the full facts become known.”
