SIPTU meets with IDA Ireland over SR Technics bids
Date Released: 19 Mar 2009SIPTU met with senior executives of IDA Ireland this morning over the future of the SR Technics facility at Dublin airport, which is due to close on March 31 with the loss of 1,350 jobs. Afterwards Branch Organiser Pat Ward said, “We were told that there had been up to thirty expressions of interest in acquiring the facility, some of them from major players in the aviation sector.
“We were also told that each interested party had been asked to put forward a business plan that included employment projections as well as financials and the long term sustainability of their proposals.
“We raised our concerns that SIPTU and the other unions at SR Technics had not been involved in the process so far, while all the bidders were being directed to the company. We were told that SR Technics, as owners of the business, were entitled to talk with all the potential bidders but that when a short list was finalised the unions would be involved in the process.
“The IDA did acknowledge the urgency of the situation, given closure of the facility was due within the next fortnight and we were told they hoped to be in a position to involve us in the process within the next week. Enterprise Ireland was also fully involved in the process.
“However we were told that problems regarding the pension fund, and the low redundancy package on offer to the workforce, were not part of the IDA-Enterprise Ireland remit. These are matters that we will be raising with the company management when we meet them this afternoon.”
