Talks avert potential job losses at LTAI
Date Released: 11 Jun 2009Over ten hours of talks today averted a renewed threat of closure and the loss of up to 465 jobs at the Lufthansa Technik Airmotive Ireland plant in Rathcoole. After the meeting Technical Engineering and Electrical Union General Secretary Designate Eamon Devoy said, “A number of clarifications was put forward by the National Implementation Body to the original agreement on issues such as the ‘plus and minus hours’ clauses.
“The former Assistant General Secretary of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, Tom Wall is to act as facilitator to implement the agreement. In simple terms what were proving to be the most contentious elements of the agreement have been made more comprehensible and therefore more acceptable to the workforce.”
SIPTU Branch Organiser Teresa Hannick said the clarifications had been accepted and agreed by all the union representatives and by the works council. They met the concerns of LTAI employees. “It was a very long and hard day but well worth it”, she added.
