Your Rights At Work

In a modern competitive economy, industrial peace is a prerequisite of wealth generation and job creation.  It implies not simply the absence fo strikes or disputes but rather the active presence of fairness and mutual respect between employee and employer and a willingness to adhere to the procedures governing the rights and obligations of people at work.

This approach to industrial peace is supported in Ireland by the legal provision of basic rights at work and through the ci-operative efforts of the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, the trade unions and employer organisations to establish a range of systems and services which support and improve industrial relations.

One of the consequences of increased legislation and more sophisticated procedures has been to make the practice of industrial relations more complex and therefore less accessible to many workers and employers

Our experience shows that far from having a clear understanding of rights and obligations, the most common questions asked by workers when dealing with problems at work are: What are my rights? What are my obligations? How do I exercise these rights and comply with these obligations?

The TUF* Guide to Labour Law sets out to answer those question in a clear, friendly and direct manner.
