The SIPTU Agriculture, Ingredients, Food & Drink Sector covers many different types of industries throughout Ireland. These industries range from market gardening farms to large manufacturing factories to small workshops.
The Sector represents workers within all grades of the Agri Business, Dairy, Meat, Food Ingredients and Drinks Industry throughout Ireland. SIPTU represents workers employed in small to medium size companies processing milk, cattle, pigs, sheep and poultry as well as those employed in large-scale agricultural food processing companies and leading edge Ingredient companies. The latter enterprises are among Ireland’s largest indigenous companies and play a major role in the economy.
Workers in the Agriculture industry are covered by the Agriculture Joint Labour Committee (JLC) and an Employment Regulation Order (ERO). The ERO stipulates the minimum legally enforceable rates of pay and terms and conditions of employment for workers in the Agriculture industry. In addition there are 32 Registered Employment Agreements with individual farms in the Mushroom industry that ensures that members receive no less than the minimum rates of pay and terms and conditions of employment contained in the agreements.
