EuroFIA MEETING, FEBRUARY 2005, NICOSIA, CYPRUS

At the EuroFIA meeting held in Nicosia in February, Irish Equity Group Secretary Jane Boushell reports a lengthy discussion on the Irish Competitions Authority ruling on our Commercials agreement, Our European colleagues are fearful of this type of action spreading to other countries and other areas in which our members work.

There is consensus that we have to ensure that at national and EU level the status of self-employed performers is clearly defined and distinguished from the status of employee and try to diminish the gap existing between the two definitions, in terms of social protection and taxation
