SIPTU health workers protest outside VHI today from 1pm to 2pm
Date Released: 25 Jan 2010SIPTU’s Dublin Health Services Branch is picketing the VHI headquarters in Abbey Street, Dublin, today (Monday, January 25th) from 1pm to 2pm as part of its campaign to reverse pay cuts in the private hospital sector.
The Mount Carmel, Mater Private and Bon Secours hospital groups have unilaterally cut pay rates and allowances for nursing and support staff by between four and five per cent.
The protest outside the VHI is because the health insurance company has so far failed to respond to correspondence seeking information on its funding for these hospitals. The hospital managements have cited cuts in VHI funding as the reason for the reductions in pay and allowances.
