SIPTU MEMBERS STRIKE AT ROYAL HOSPITAL DONNYBROOK

Date Released: 28 Jan 2010

SIPTU members at the Royal Hospital, Donnybrook are to commence an all out strike on Friday (29th January) in protest at the outsourcing of jobs.

The voluntary hospital, which is funded by the Department of Health and the Health Services Executive (HSE), has outsourced the jobs of a laundry operator and a porter to a private contractor, Spring Grove Services Ltd.

Discussions at the Labour Relations Commission on Thursday (28th January) failed to resolve the issue as the company refused to withdraw the services of the outsourced contractor in advance of negotiations.

Following a ballot of its 80 members at the hospital pickets will be placed by SIPTU at the Royal Hospital in Donnybrook from 7.00 a.m. tomorrow.
