SIPTU members have accepted a request from the Labour Relations Commission (LRC) to defer a conciliation conference concerning the dispute at Lagan Brick, Kingscourt, co Cavan, from Monday, 30th January until Monday, 6th February.
SIPTU Organiser John Regan said; “This postponement of the LRC conciliation conference is in order to allow the LRC appointed independent assessor time to complete a report on the company’s trading position and an assessment of the viability of continuing manufacturing at the Kingscourt facility. Our members are supportive of this process and have agreed to accept the LRC request for an extension of the time available to the assessor.”
Workers at the Lagan Brick manufacturing plant were informed it was closing only hours before it ceased operation on Friday, 15th December. Since then the workers affected by the closure have maintained a 24 hour protest at the plant entrance. This protest will continue until a final settlement to the dispute is agreed.
