Aer Lingus - Privatisation No Solution

Minister Cullen meets unions on Aer Lingus

Date Released: 02 Mar 2006

Following a meeting of SIPTU shop stewards this morning about the possibility of a part privatisation of Aer Lingus , the ICTU Group of Unions in Aer Lingus met Transport Minister, Martin Cullen this afternoon to outline their concerns.

SIPTU's National Industrial Secretary, Michael Halpenny said the meeting was constructive in so far as  Minister Cullen agreed to instruct senior management in Aer Lingus to engage with the unions about the strategic business plan.  He also gave a commitment that the Government would look again at the question of state investment and the ICTU proposals on a State Holding Company.
