Aer Lingus - Privatisation No Solution

ICTU writes to Minister Cullen

Date Released: 09 Mar 2006

David Begg, General Secretary of ICTU has written to the Minister for Transport, Martin Cullen following the meeting between the Minister and the Aer Lingus Group of Unions on March 2, 2006.

He wrote: It was noted that you intend to give further consideration to the representations made by the Congress delegation.  We welcome your decision to revert to the Cabinet on our proposal to establish a State Holding Company in the context of financing the expansion of the airline.  As you know, the SHC proposal is central to our policy on the future of the semi-state companies and has been formally tabled at the Social Partnership talks in that context.

I look forward to receiving the Government's response in due course.
