Martin Cullen TD
Minister for Transport

Dear Minister

The decision by the Government to sell off a majority share-holding in Aer Lingus is bad for the airline, bad for the taxpayer, bad for the country and bad for the workforce, particularly when so much is uncertain with regard to their future and so much of their concerns left unresolved.    There is an alternative!  The Irish Congress of Trade Unions has proposed a State Holding Company to allow Aer Lingus to be retained in public ownership and still have the facility to raise capital.EU rules also allow the Government to invest directly in Aer Lingus as a going concern – which it most certainly is.It is now time for an urgent re-think before it is too late and we end up with another Eircom, or worse still, an Irish Ferries!
