At a meeting on Wednesday, 23rd May, of the Congress Global Solidarity Committee, which was attended by General Secretary, Patricia King and Senator Frances Black - the ongoing situation in Palestine was discussed as well as Congress support for Senator Black’s Occupied Territories Bill, which would ban the sale in Ireland of goods produced in the illegal settlements established by Israel on the land confiscated from Palestinians, over the course of their decades long year occupation of the Palestinian territories in the West Bank.
The Global Solidarity Committee also endorsed the position adopted by the Congress Executive Council last week supporting the recall of Irish diplomats from Israel and the expulsion of the Israeli Ambassador, in light of the appalling killings of unarmed protestors in Gaza recently.
