SIPTU signs a collective bargaining agreement with bus operator Go-Ahead Ireland

Date Released: 29 June 2018

SIPTU representatives have signed a collective bargaining agreement with Go-Ahead Ireland in which the transport company, which recently won a tender to operate 24 Outer Dublin Metropolitan Area bus routes, recognises the right of the union to organise its workers and represent them in negotiations with management.

SIPTU TEAC Division Organiser, Greg Ennis, said: “SIPTU has organised transport workers in Dublin and across Ireland for more than a century. In the continuance of this strong tradition, union representatives have signed a collective bargaining agreement with Go-Ahead Ireland with a view to representing its future workforce.

“The recently signed agreement with Go-Ahead Ireland will further enhance the growing portfolio of private bus companies who recognise SIPTU as the trade union to collectively bargain with on behalf of their employees.”

SIPTU Transport Sector Organiser, John Murphy, said: “The SIPTU Transport Sector, which organises private and public transport companies, is a continuously growing component of the Transport, Energy, Aviation and Construction (TEAC) Division of SIPTU. The members who join our union through its future association with Go-Ahead Ireland will be warmly welcomed by their brother and sister trade unionists who make up the 200,000 strong and growing SIPTU organisation.

SIPTU representatives welcome the opportunity to organise and advocate on behalf of the employees of Go-Ahead Ireland. While inevitably there will be future challenges for the employees of Go-Ahead Ireland, we look forward to promoting workers’ interests in the company over the coming years.”
