SIPTU is hosting a meeting to discuss LBGTQI+ community issues as they impact on the workplace and working lives in Liberty Hall, Dublin 1, on Saturday, 25th June, at 11.00 a.m. as part of the Dublin Pride festival.

SIPTU Deputy General Secretary, Ethel Buckley, said: “Our union stands for dignity, respect and equality in the workplace and wider society. We have a proud record in the fight against workplace discrimination and harassment.

“Our commitment to Pride Month is an extension of our long tradition of organising and campaigning to win both bread and roses for all people across all communities. That is our collective struggle and one we are proud to share with all LGBTI+ workers and activists.”

She added: “The Pride at Work meeting on Saturday will be a forum for LBGTQI+ and trade union activists to discuss measures to further equality and address issues, including a spike in homophobic violence, which are currently of concern.”

Those taking part in the discussions include SIPTU Shop Steward and founding member of the SIPTU LBGTQI+ network Rachel Matthews McKay, NUJ Irish Secretary Seamus Dooley, Transgender Equality Network Ireland National Community Development Officer, Lilith Ferreyra-Carroll and FSU official Karl Hayden. The meeting will be chaired by Ethel Buckley.

The event will be live streamed on the SIPTU Facebook page from 11.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.
