Bord na Móna has reached a new three-year pay agreement covering staff in its Land and Habitats Division, marking an important milestone as the company continues to navigate its transition under the Brown to Green strategy.

A pay deal for members in Gas Networks Ireland has also been voted on and accepted, it covers 2025 and will see a 3.6% pay raise for members.

The Bord na Móna Land and Habitats Division deal comes at a time of ongoing change for the semi-state company, with future challenges including the pending decision on the extension of PCAS operations and continued tendering for rehabilitation and trail construction projects with the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), local authorities, and county councils.

Under the new agreement, employees will receive a 3% pay increase in April 2025, a further 3% in April 2026, and a 2.5% rise in April 2027. Both management and unions have stressed that the deal builds on existing frameworks, including the 2019 Just Transition Agreement and the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) Agreement of 2016, while aiming to provide greater visibility on future pay movements and clarity around terms and conditions.

SIPTU Sector Organiser, Ted Kenny, said: “The agreement also sets out protections for employees facing redeployment, guaranteeing preservation of pay and conditions in line with previous commitments. Workers who are redeployed, whether by necessity or through voluntary movement to suitable alternative roles, will continue to benefit from the pay protection measures established under the WRC Agreement.

“In line with a 2023 understanding between management and unions, employees can apply for voluntary redundancy after two redeployments of three months each, though earlier applications may be considered in individual circumstances under the 2018 Voluntary Redundancy Scheme.”
