SIPTU Sector Organiser, Adrian Kane, said: “There is a huge political storm relating to the company and our members got caught in the middle of that. This resulted in money being taken from them in a way that should not have arisen.
“The proposal from the LRC will go a long way towards reversing that situation. SIPTU is recommending that members accept the LRC proposal but a more transparent incremental pay structure would have been preferred.”
The LRC proposal, which has been accepted by the management of Irish Water, will see staff receive backdated annual incremental pay increases ranging from 3% for lower paid workers to 1.5% for other staff.
The LRC said it had put forward its proposal as a means of rectifying a situation which had arisen in relation to the company failing to introduce a system of performance-related pay awards as a replacement to staff receiving annual pay increments.
A system of performance-related pay awards is now scheduled to be introduced by the company in 2017.
