SIPTU has called on the management of Wilo Engineering in Limerick, County Limerick, to defer the implementation of redundancies at the pump manufacturing company until a hearing of the Labour Court into proposed job losses. SIPTU Organiser, Ray Mitchell, said: “Workers have been informed that the facility is closing due to production being transferred to France. The closure will result in 17 job losses and the company is refusing to honour a Workplace Relations Commission agreement concerning redundancy entitlements for the workers affected.” He added: “We are calling on the company to defer the implementation of the redundancies until the Labour Court has had an opportunity to conduct a hearing into the situation. SIPTU representatives have today (Wednesday, 26th October) requested that such a hearing be held as soon as possible.”
