SIPTU representatives have today (Wednesday, 21st October) called on the management of Odeon Cinemas to enter into negotiations with its members concerning a proposed restructuring of the entertainment company due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. SIPTU Organiser, Graham Macken, said: “SIPTU representatives are ready to assist in the restructuring process for Odeon Cinemas, keeping in mind the significant challenges the company faces due to the ongoing Covid-19 crisis. However, we are completely opposed to any form of compulsory redundancy scheme. We wish to explore with the company all reasonable options to avoid such a situation and consider all possibilities of suitable redeployment for our members within the business. “Any potential alternative roles identified should allow our members to retain their current terms of employment and salaries. Where this is not possible, it must be ensured that appropriate compensation is put in place to mitigate any potential losses. He added: “As what is currently being proposed by management falls into the category of a collective redundancy, we are calling on the company to adhere to the legislation relevant to such a situation and begin meaningful talks with our union.” SIPTU members in Odeon Cinemas include general managers, deputy managers and regional operations personnel.
