SIPTU members in Irish Rail have voted by 53% to 47% to reject an amended Labour Court Recommendation on a cost cutting plan for the transport company. SIPTU Organiser, Paul Cullen, said: “Our members have been given the opportunity to democratically express their view on these proposals. It is clear from this ballot result that our members have categorically rejected the acceptance of any further pay reductions.”He added: “It is clear from this vote that SIPTU does not have a mandate from its members to engage in any further negotiations with the management of Irish Rail which include any pay reductions.”The ballot of SIPTU members in Irish Rail was conducted from the 19th June to 10th July and counted in Liberty Hall today (Friday, 11th July).The amended proposals emerged from discussions between union representatives and management on an earlier Labour Court Recommendation which had been previously rejected by SIPTU members.
