SIPTU nurses will protest outside University Hospital Galway to highlight their concerns over the number of patients on trolleys in the Accident and Emergency Department, tomorrow (Wednesday, 17th September) from 1.00 p.m. to 2.00 p.m. SIPTU Organiser, Mark Lohan, said: “SIPTU is very concerned over the number of patients on trolleys in the Accident and Emergency Department of University Hospital Galway. We are gravely concerned that the Accident & Emergency Department is extremely overcrowded and understaffed. This situation has this resulted in difficulties in providing quality patient care.“SIPTU is calling for the lifting of the HSE recruitment embargo on nursing staff and health care assistants. We are also calling on the public health care system to be adequately funded to ensure patients receive the quality service they deserve”.He added: “We are working with other unions to achieve progress on these issues. Tomorrow, SIPTU members will be standing shoulder to shoulder with members of other unions to say enough is enough and the HSE must take action now”.
