SIPTU has written to the management of the FAI seeking an urgent meeting to discuss speculation concerning cutbacks at the sport’s governing body which could result in job losses.

SIPTU Organiser, Hugh Kennedy, said: “Last year, our members in the FAI conducted the successful Our Union, Our Team campaign which resulted in greater engagement between management and staff on issues within the Association.”

“However, in recent weeks there has been media speculation regarding the funding of the organisation and the possibility of future job cuts. This has greatly concerned our members, as has the failure of management to provide clear answers in relation to this situation.”

He added: “We suspended the actions of the Our Union, Our Team campaign late last year. This was on the understanding that management and SIPTU members in the FAI would work collaboratively on change in the organisation. This approach must be reinstated as a matter of urgency.”

SIPTU Sector Organiser, Robbie Purfield, said: “We suspended the actions of the Our Union, Our Team campaign, which included information briefings with members of the football community and leafleting League of Ireland games, following a positive agreement between our members and management for staff relations in the FAI.”

He added: “We remain committed to working constructively with FAI management on our joint goals of improving the organisation of football in Ireland.”
