SIPTU General President, Jack O’ Connor has welcomed the decisive victory of Syriza in the Greek general election. He said: “We welcome the historic decision of the Greek people in today’s (Sunday, 25th January) general election. The dramatic victory of Syriza signals the beginning of the end of the nightmare of the one-sided austerity experiment which has bedevilled the peoples of Europe and threatened the future of the democratic system itself. “We emphatically support Syriza’s call for a debt conference and their imaginative solution which would release hundreds of billions of euro to the task of rebuilding Europe, offering hope in place of despair.”
