SIPTU representatives attending talks at the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC), today (Monday, 20th February), concerning threatened cuts at Bus Éireann have said that a document presented by management to unions only serves to create more fear and uncertainty among staff and those who rely on public transport services. SIPTU Sector Organiser, Willie Noone, said: “The company has presented the union representatives with a very substantial document. However, it only serves to create more uncertainty and fear among the workforce and those communities who rely on the vital transport services our members provide. “Despite two days of talks our members are still none the wiser on what routes, services and locations are under threat of closure by the company. The document presented today also fails to identify the numbers of employees the company envisages remaining in employment or the terms and conditions under which they will be employed.” He added: “SIPTU representatives remain resolute in our mission to protect public transport services in rural communities and will resist attempts by management to reduce our members’ pay and conditions of employment.”
