The Bord na Móna Group of Unions has condemned a decision of the management to implement what amounts to a lockout by removing eight workers from the company payroll. At a meeting of shop stewards from SIPTU, TEEU, and Unite in Tullamore, Co. Offaly, last night (Tuesday, 1st April) the heavy-handed approach of management towards the workers was strongly condemned.SIPTU Organiser, John Regan, said: “For several months the Group of Unions has been engaged with management concerning a dispute surrounding an attempt to implement pay cuts and reduce the workforce by 117.“Management recently informed the Group of Unions that it was going ahead with the de-manning of one section of the company. The unions responded by informing management that there was no agreement on this process and if it went ahead with this unilateral action it would be in breach of procedures and have serious consequences.”He added: “To discuss the necessary response to the removal of workers from the company payroll it was agreed last night by the Bord na Móna Group of Unions to hold a General Meeting of all members on Thursday, 10th April at 7.30 p.m. The venue for this General Meeting will be confirmed shortly.”
