SIPTU is Ireland’s strongest trade union representing members, their families and communities in both jurisdictions in the public and private sectors. SIPTU’s Communications team encourages workers to join, informs members, amplifies the Union’s voice and executes high-impact events.
We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced and skilled individual to join our Strategic Management Team as Head of Communications and to lead our Communications Team.
The Head of Communications will be responsible for the Union’s strategic, creative and operational output, as well as the development and co-ordination of a strategic communications plan delivered across a highly dispersed and complex organisation.
The role requires advanced skills in planning and delivering effective communications strategies that engage key stakeholders and drive the Union’s message forward with impact across all media, public affairs and internal communications.
The successful candidate will be highly motivated with a strong understanding of the role and values of the trade union movement and social justice. They will have excellent communications and writing skills, be able to demonstrate a strong knowledge of the social, economic, legal, industrial and political landscape relevant to fulfilling the role’s responsibilities and have good teamwork and interpersonal skills. A minimum of 3 – 5 years relevant experience of operating at Head of Communications/Public Affairs or similar senior level is highly desirable.

The remuneration package available is at an exceptionally competitive base commensurate with the seniority of the role including a Defined Benefit Pension Scheme and other benefits.
