Pay Talks Underway

Following the tremendous display of solidarity and determination demonstrated by our members during the national strike on 14th October, we want to update you on the current status of our dispute and the ongoing talks at the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC).

Your determination, alongside that of more than 300,000 public sector workers brought the Government to the negotiating table.

The planned strike action for 21st October was deferred to allow these discussions to proceed, while work-to-rule action remains in place where operational. Formal talks began at the WRC last Monday, 19th October.

Our priority is clear: securing a fair pay agreement that addresses the cost-of-living pressures facing members, including the erosion of pay and the need to restore confidence in public service industrial relations. The opening discussions allowed both sides to set out their positions.

However, there is still work to be done to secure an agreement that meets members’ expectations. We will judge this process by its outcomes, not simply by the fact that talks are taking place.

We want to thank every member for your commitment and solidarity. The strength you demonstrated on the picket lines has brought us to this point. SIPTU will continue to press for a fair outcome and keep members informed as negotiations progress.
