SIPTU representatives last month welcomed a resolution of a dispute affecting 70 graduate paramedics who will be offered permanent contracts in the National Ambulance Service (NAS).

This dispute was concluded following engagement between unions and HSE management on 10th March.

“Our members welcomed the decision by the National Ambulance Service to abide by the pre-existing arrangements for permanent contracts to be offered to graduate paramedics,” SIPTU Sector Organiser, John McCamley, said following the resolution.

“This decision will go a long way to giving some stability and reassurance to our members as they embark on their careers as paramedics.”

He went on to say that the graduates “unfortunately had to endure weeks of uncertainty and stress regarding future employment within the service” but that “we hope that no future paramedic graduates will be treated in this manner”.
