SIPTU has stated that all workers employed by Pfizer in its pharmaceutical manufacturing plant in Ringaskiddy, County Cork, should be treated in an equal manner in relation to their pension entitlements unless there is an agreement on any change. SIPTU Sector Organiser, Alan O’Leary, said: “New employees should be treated in the same manner as existing ones. When they commenced their employment, new workers at the Pfizer Plant in Ringaskiddy should have started on the same defined benefit scheme as their colleagues. This should always be the situation unless there is agreement between workers and management on any possible changes.” SIPTU members in the Ringaskiddy plant have voted for industrial action due to new employees not being admitted to the existing workers’ defined benefit pension scheme. SIPTU represents approximately 260 workers in the Ringaskiddy plant. Over 600 Pfizer workers are members of the union in the company’s operations in Ireland.
