The SIPTU Construction Sector has called on the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Heather Humphreys, to halt building work at the historically important properties connected to the 1916 Rising in Moore Street, Dublin. SIPTU Construction Sector Organiser, Martin Meere, said: "In this centenary year of the 1916 Rising it is critically important that the Minister works with all parties and interest groups who wish to see such an historically significant site as Moore Street preserved. “It is essential that the Minister consults representatives of the families of those who took part in the Rising and others associated with commemorating it.” SIPTU Construction Sector President, Eddie Gunnery, said: “The commemoration of the centenary of the Rising is not in the sole ownership of the Government or the State, rather it must be inclusive and for all citizens.  “We believe an agreed way forward can be found in relation to the Moore Street site as long as the Minister consults with the relevant representative associations and groups who wish to honour those who fought in 1916.”
