SIPTU Luas drivers have amended the times of their series of four-hour work stoppages during June to ensure the industrial action does not impact on students sitting State examinations. The four-hour work stoppages on Wednesday 8th, Thursday 9th and Friday 10th June, which had been scheduled to take place during school hours, will now take place from 6.00 p.m. to 10.00 p.m. A work stoppage on Thursday, 2nd June, will take place as previously scheduled from 3.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m. with work stoppages on Friday, 3rd June and Tuesday, 7th June also going ahead as scheduled from 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. SIPTU Organiser, John Murphy, said: “It was never the intention of our members to impact on students taking State examinations. When it was brought to our members’ attention that some of the scheduled work stoppages did impact on students travelling to sit the Junior and Leaving Certificate exams the decision was immediately taken to amend their timing.”
