The executive of the SIPTU Meath District Council has voted to support a 12-hour strike by workers in the 999 emergency call centre in Navan, County Meath, on Thursday 25th February. SIPTU Meath District Council President, Anton McCabe, said: “Communications Workers Union (CWU) members in the 999 service have been campaigning for dignity and respect in the workplace for the past 18 months.“The workers are calling on their employer, Conduit Global, to negotiate fair corrective action and on-call policies, accept workers right to collectively bargain as well as pay them a Living Wage of €11.50 per hour. The SIPTU Meath District Council supports the workers in these demands.”SIPTU Meath District Council Co-ordinator, John Regan, said: “The Meath SIPTU District Council executive officers are calling on the management of Conduit Global to immediately engage meaningfully with the workers’ union representatives to resolve this dispute.”To protect the emergency call service, the CWU members have decided to only stage a work stoppage in the 999 emergency call centre in Navan on Thursday, 25th February. The other centres in Ballyshannon, County Donegal, and Dublin will operate as normal.
