Public Service Pay Update
SIPTU members in the public service, in our first phase of ballots, voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action, up to and including strike action. In this phase of our nationwide ballot of members working in health services, local government and State agencies, the vote was 97% in favour of strike action and 98% for industrial action.
This decisive result reflects the deep frustration at the Government’s failure to seriously engage with public service workers’ union representatives on pay, protections against outsourcing and the impact of AI and a successor to the previous public service agreement.

The vote sends a clear message that public service workers will not accept the continued erosion of their wages or further pressure on already overstretched services. Our members know very well that this situation is a mess of the Government’s making and it is its responsibility to act to prevent disruption to vital public services.
SIPTU Health Division members in 30 hospitals will take industrial action on 30th September as part of the Union’s campaign to force the Government to commence negotiations on a new public service pay agreement.
SIPTU members employed across the Local Authority and State Agency sectors will commence industrial action on 30th September in a dispute resulting from the failure of the Government to establish the basis for formal negotiations on a successor public service pay agreement.
If your workplace was not part of phase one of this ballot, please be assured you will have a chance to have your say on this Government in a postal ballot.
