What are the dates I should know?
Phase 1 locations will take a day of industrial action on 30th September and will take a day of strike action on 14th October.
Phase 2 locations are not included in these dates.

What does the work-to-rule mean?
On 30th September, participating SIPTU Health Division members will take a day of action by work-to rule.
Members will:
- Start and finish at their scheduled rostered time
- Work their rostered hours
- Carry out their normal contractual duties
- Follow normal workplace procedures and professional standards
- Continue to provide safe and appropriate patient care within their contracted duties and established roles
- Comply with their professional and statutory obligations
What do you mean by voluntary additional labour and goodwill?
As part of the work-to-rule on the day of action on 30th September, members will not provide voluntary additional labour or goodwill beyond their normal contractual obligations, in accordance with the specific industrial action instructions issued by SIPTU.
This includes, where applicable and where it is voluntary:
- No voluntary overtime
- No voluntary early starts or late finishes
- Do not accept requests for duty on days off to provide additional cover
- No volunteering for additional work outside normal contractual arrangements
- No undertaking of additional discretionary activity to compensate for staffing shortages
I’m in Phase 1; am I included in the strike action on 14th October?
Yes, members in the 30 hospitals listed above will be participating in strike action on 14th October.
Who is involved in the Phase 2 process?
All remaining public service members in the Health Division are included in the Phase 2 process.
If I am involved in Phase 2, how will I be able to vote?
Balloting for members under Phase 2 will be by postal ballot.
When will the Phase 2 ballot commence?
The ballot commenced this week and will conclude with the counting of ballots on 30th September.
If I’m in Phase 2, am I included in the strike action on 14th October?
No. Your ballot will be counted on 30th September. If members vote in favour of industrial and strike action, you will be included in any subsequent actions that may be taken following that strike.
When will I get more information about the Phase 2 ballot?
