SIPTU has notified Castolin Eutectic Ireland, Magna Business Park, Citywest, Dublin 24, of five further days of strike action as part of a dispute concerning the company’s failure to implement a Labour Court Recommendation on redundancy terms.

The Labour Court Recommendation provides for an increase in redundancy terms of 1.5 weeks per year of service over statutory entitlements.

SIPTU members at Castolin Eutectic have already taken industrial action and placed pickets on the facility in Citywest on Friday, 19th June, and today (Monday, 22nd June). Further strike action is also scheduled for tomorrow (Tuesday, 23rd June).

The five further days of strike action will take place from Monday, 29th June, to Friday, 3rd July, and will mark a significant escalation in the dispute.

SIPTU Organiser, Richie Elliott, said: “The workers have decided to escalate the dispute with a full week of work stoppages because of management’s failure to implement the Labour Court Recommendation. This is unacceptable to the eight workers being made redundant and their colleagues in the plant.

“The company cannot be allowed to ignore the Labour Court. It must show respect to state institutions, its staff and pay the enhanced redundancy terms to the workers.”

SIPTU Manufacturing Divisional Organiser, Neil McGowan, said: “The workers are more determined than ever to bring about a positive result to this dispute and the full implementation of the Labour Court Recommendation.

“We are very grateful for the support of the local community and public representatives. This support adds to the workers’ resolve to see this dispute through to a fair conclusion.”
