SIPTU members in Castolin Eutectic Ireland in Magna Business Park, Citywest, Dublin 24, will commence strike action on Friday, 19th June, which will be followed by further work stoppages on Monday, 22nd June and Tuesday, 23rd June.
Earlier this year, the company announced collective redundancies at the plant in Magna Business Park. The dispute was brought before the Labour Court, and a recommendation was issued awarding the affected workers an increase in redundancy terms of 1.5 weeks per year of service over their statutory entitlement.
The company has made it clear that it will not honour the terms of the Court’s recommendation and has confirmed its intention to make the workers redundant on statutory terms.
SIPTU Organiser, Richie Elliott, said: “Management has made it clear that it will not honour the terms of the Labour Court recommendation, and this is unacceptable to the eight workers being made redundant and their colleagues in the plant. The company cannot be allowed to ignore the Labour Court. It must show respect to the state institutions and pay the enhanced redundancy to the workers.”
SIPTU Divisional Organiser, Neil McGowan, said: “The workers will commence industrial action with a work stoppage and the placing of pickets on Friday, 19th June. This will be followed by two days of further work stoppages on Monday, 22nd June and Tuesday, 23rd June.
“We hope this issue can be resolved by the company showing respect to the Court and the workers and accepting the recommendation. SIPTU members are determined to see the Court recommendation implemented in full and will consider escalating the action if required.”
