SIPTU members who work for Transdev, the company which operates LUAS, have announced two additional 24-hour work stoppages in their dispute over pay and conditions. The two further dates of industrial action, which have been decided on by workers, are Tuesday, 8th March and Thursday, 17th March. SIPTU Transport, Energy, Aviation and Construction Division Organiser, Owen Reidy, said: “The shop stewards and workers are very keen to resolve this dispute as soon as possible. They remain available for talks in whatever forum is appropriate. “Our members have contributed to the success of this company and are determined to achieve a fair deal for the next five years. The dates announced today, in addition to an already scheduled 48-hour work stoppage which is set to begin on Thursday, 18th February, at 4.00 a.m., will hopefully encourage the company to try and find a solution to this dispute.” He added: “It is now incumbent on the management of Transdev and other stakeholders responsible for the operation of the LUAS to engage meaningfully with the union and its elected workplace representatives in order to avoid the escalation of this dispute.”
