SIPTU members employed by G4S Secure Solutions Limited will take strike action tomorrow (Tuesday, 3rd March) to protect their jobs supplying security services as part of a contract with South Dublin County Council (SDCC). SIPTU Organiser Peadar Nolan said: “These workers are likely to be displaced due to a failure of the incoming contractor, Top Security Limited, to apply the European Communities (Protection of Employees on Transfer of Undertakings) Regulations 2003. "After a failure to resolve the issues in dispute at the Labour Relations Commission on Thursday, 26th February, the workers were left with no option but to proceed to all out strike action by placing pickets at their place of work tomorrow.” He added: "These workers, who work and live in the local community, are determined to protect their jobs. They believe that SDCC can and should insist on the transfer of undertakings regulations being applied. It is completely within the council’s gift to protect their jobs. “The union has asked the council to postpone the handing over of the contract to facilitate a request to the Labour Court to investigate the issues in dispute. Failing this, the action will go ahead as planned."
