The General President of SIPTU, Jack O’ Connor, has expressed his deep condolences to the family of Martin McGuinness following the death of the former deputy first minister, Martin McGuinness. “On behalf of the National Executive and members of SIPTU, I would like to express our deep condolences to his family following the sad death of Martin McGuinness. He was a courageous and dedicated republican who made a huge contribution to the peace process and the emergence of the power sharing institutions in the North. “He will be remembered as a formidable and generous political leader who maintained his commitment to a united Ireland based on socialist principles of equality and fairness while accepting the compromises required to achieve his aim.”
